Why You Need to Start Grounding, Now
Grounding (Earthing): Benefits and Science
Could such a simple thing as being barefoot in the grass help us feel better? That is what “grounding” or “earthing” essentially is and there are some great benefits of grounding for your body. Because the earth is one big electrical battery, there is a very special energy we can connect with that is present in the ground. It is believed that this type of electromagnetic energy is what we are missing and that this energy is also healing.

What is Grounding or Earthing?
In simple terms, grounding is simply putting your bare feet on the ground. When you do this, you’re in contact with the Earth. And because Mother Earth is endowed with electrons, these electrons are literally absorbed through your feet when grounding barefoot. “It’s like taking a handful of antioxidants, but getting it through your feet,” says Cardiologist Stephen Sinatra.
How Did We Disconnect From the Earth?
Modern lifestyle has increasingly separated humans from the primordial flow of Earth's electrons. Since the 1960s, we have increasingly worn insulating rubber or plastic soled shoes instead of traditional leather shoes. The use of insulating materials in post-World War II shoes has separated us from the Earth's energy field. Obviously, we no longer sleep on the ground as we did in times past.
Separated from the Earth and Poor Health?
During recent decades, chronic illness, immune disorders, and inflammatory diseases have increased dramatically, and some researchers have cited environmental factors as the cause. However, the possibility of modern disconnection with the Earth's surface as a cause has not been widely considered. Recent research does point us in that direction.
The Benefits of Grounding
Numerous scientific studies have shown that when were connect to the Earth, we may experience health benefits including decreased inflammation and pain, improved circulation, and reduced stress levels.
How to Reconnect To The Earth
Take off your shoes and socks, head outside and feel the effects of grounding right away. Studies suggest that just 30 minutes of grounding barefoot may help reduce pain, inflammation and improve sleep quality. Grounding is free and available to all of us. If you can’t get outside today, consider adding “barefoot sessions” to your self-care routine.
