Infrared Sauna for Radiant Skin by Lacy Nicole

December 12, 2021

You already know saunas can help shed excess water weight and relax muscle tension, but did you know it can also give you glowing skin? That’s right. Whether you’re looking to promote plump skin or simply clear a breakout, sauna is your ticket to healthy skin.

In this article, we will be talking about the benefits of sauna for your skin and how to get the most out of your sauna session to see results.

First, let’s talk about how the sauna can improve the look and feel of your skin.

DETOXIFICATION

The sauna helps us produce a good sweat resulting in toxins being released. This allows a natural detoxification process that can help your skin purge impurities. Fewer clogged pores means less breakouts for you.

COLLAGEN & ELASTIN PRODUCTION

Collagen is responsible for giving skin a plump, youthful appearance. This is what keeps skin from sagging and wrinkles from forming. Elastin helps with the skin’s ability to stretch and keep its original shape and firmness. Infrared sauna specifically, stimulates collagen and elastin production. It’s necessary to get regular sauna exposure to see these benefits. Now let’s talk about what you can do to get the most out of your sauna session.

HYDRATE

Drink plenty of water before and after your sauna session. Being well hydrated at the start of your sauna session is going to help you produce a healthy sweat that will help clear out your pores. Hydrating afterwards will ensure you are bringing back moisture that was released during the sweat.

EXFOLIATE

It’s important to do a light exfoliation prior to sweating. When you sweat your pores are wide open and we want to avoid dead skin cells from being absorbed. In your shower after the sauna, be sure to do another light exfoliation to gently remove any toxins that came out during your session.

PREPPING THE SKIN

Avoid applying moisturizer to your face before your sauna session. The heat from the sauna causes pores to open and stimulates sebum production. Excess sebum mixed with moisturizer may cause clogged pores. Instead, consider applying a serum before heading into the sauna. Serums are able to penetrate deeper and can be more effective. You should still wash your face after the sauna and reapply the serum for maximum benefits.
