A Post Infrared Sauna Cooldown Done Right

You just spent 40 hot and healthy  minutes in an infrared sauna and now it’s time to chill out. The cooldown process is actually where your body burns the most calories because it’s working hard to regulate its temperature and get you to your optimal level of being.  Don’t rush out of this “new you” euphoria, before you do these 3 important things.

Allocate at least 10 mins for a Cool Down

It will take a minimum of 10 minutes for your body to readjust its body temperature and cool down. Use the provided cold eucalyptus towel to begin cooling down. The icy cold towel is invigorating! Sit in a chair or lay on a towel down in your room to ease into normal activity post sauna.

HYDRATE TO REPLENISH

The purpose of an infrared sauna session is to help you sweat and detox. When you sweat, you don’t just lose water but also lose important electrolytes, essential minerals like potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium.

It is essential to replenish your body with water and electrolytes to avoid dehydration.
Electrolytes help regulate nervous system functioning and muscle contractions, balance your pH levels, and play a key role in hydration. Refill your reusable water bottle at our water station and consider adding a packet of LMNT, Liquid IV or reach for a coconut water of Essentia Water to replenish well.

Eat a Nutritious Meal or Snack

You might crave something salty post sauna session because you lost a good amount of sodium via sweating. Although tempting, don’t reach for a bag of chips. Instead opt for foods that are nutrient dense like leafy greens, nuts, bananas or fruits high in water like pineapple or watermelon. At Perspire Sauna Studio, we have Raw juices in our fridges to help get those nutrients back into your system easily and conveniently.

You did something for you that your future self will thank you for. An infrared sauna session has many physical and mental benefits. Enjoy every minute of it and every minute of the cool down.
