Red Light Therapy: It’s More Than A Wellness Fad and Here’s Why

March 1, 2021

Red Light Therapy (RLT) is everywhere! From at home devices to dental offices, accessibility to red light therapy has never been easier. Select Perspire Infrared Saunas are now equipped with a high-intensity Red Light Therapy because – short answer: it’s impressive, long answer: keep reading.

Red Light Therapy (RLT) utilizes low-level laser light, set at a specific wavelength, that safely penetrates the body’s surface tissue to energize cell regeneration and reduce inflammation.

It is a natural, effective, and non-invasive way of revitalizing and healing your skin and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin – the building block of your skin structure.

Delivered at 660nm, red light therapy is readily absorbed by surface tissues and cells. Red light stimulates the mitochondria in our cells. The mitochondria turn the light into usable energy for our bodies through the process of cellular respiration.

Red Light Therapy has been tested to further enhance the overall skin condition, naturally. Even more amazing, red light therapy isn’t just “skin deep”, it affects the body at a cellular level, stimulating natural biological processes in the areas where red light is applied.

In the early 1990s, NASA discovered that red light could activate plant growth in space in the absence of sunlight. These experiments resulted in rapid cell growth and regeneration, and it was later confirmed the same reaction was found in human cells. Much like plants, the human body is photosensitive and is affected by light on the cellular level.

Red light was then studied for its ability to increase energy inside human cells. The human body needs to make ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) cellular energy to function and survive. This occurs naturally when our bodies are exposed to natural sunlight. But did you know that most people don’t get nearly enough sunlight? The average American spends over 90% of their time indoors, surrounded by bright artificial light, which is why red light therapy is incredibly beneficial to us today more than ever.

Known for its powerful form of energy, red light provides many benefits to the human body. Red light therapy is known to make improvements to the way you look, feel, and even behave. Over 3,000 peer-reviewed scientific studies show incredible health and anti-aging benefits of red light therapy and near-infrared light therapy, proving that they can help you:

  • Fight skin aging, wrinkles, and cellulite
  • Rid your body of chronic inflammation
  • Fight the oxidative damage that drives aging
  • Increase strength, endurance, and muscle mass
  • Decrease pain
  • Combat hair loss
  • Build resilience to stress at the cellular level
  • Speed up wound/injury healing
  • Combat some autoimmune conditions and improve hormonal health
  • Optimize your brain function and mood
  • Overcome fatigue and improve energy levels

Select Perspire Sauna Studios now offer medical-grade Red Light Therapy, in addition to infrared and color light therapy. This unique combination of light therapies delivered holistically in every 40-minute session, provides the most optimal wellness experience for inner and outer transformation.

The existing body of research on light and human health shows that red light and near-infrared light are the most beneficial wavelengths, with the fewest risks and downsides.

This combination of wavelengths work together to target not only skin cells but all other tissues in the human body as well … a harmonizing approach that restores health and wellbeing.

In general, Red Light is primarily used to help with skin conditions, as the red light spectrum primarily benefits skin-depth concerns and cellular health. However, other benefits of Red Light Therapy have been known to include:

  • Stimulating hair regrowth
  • Reducing acne inflammation and breakouts
  • Reduction of fine lines, sagging skin, sun damage & wrinkles
  • Reduction of sciatic nerve pain
  • Reduction of post-injury swelling & inflammation
  • Increased athletic recovery

Near, mid, and far-infrared (IR) waves penetrate the skin, muscles, joints, and tissues to increase circulation, speed oxygen flow, and help rid the body of harmful toxins. The Near Infrared (NIR) wavelengths penetrate much deeper than red light, including all soft tissue, connective tissue, and bone. Benefits of NIR have been known to include:

  • Improved muscular healing and accelerated recovery
  • Accelerated healing and reduced inflammation
  • An increase of “feel-good” endorphins
  • Accelerated return to athletic activity after injury

Most wavelengths of light (such as UV, blue, green, and yellow light, etc.) are mostly unable to penetrate into the body and stay in the layers of the skin. Near-infrared light and red light are able to reach deep into the human body (several centimeters, and close to 2 inches, in some cases) and are able to directly penetrate into the cells, tissues, blood, nerves, the brain, and into the bones.

Consumer interest in natural health has spiked in the last 10-15 years. More than ever, people are looking for effective, natural treatments that don’t rely solely on prescription drugs, chemicals, and invasive procedures. Consumers have never been more interested in preventive medicine and lifestyle factors. Light therapy options fit this growing sensibility by addressing the root causes of health and illness.

Perspire is the original infrared sauna studio. It is also now the first-ever infrared sauna studio to offer full spectrum infrared saunas and red light therapy in a 40-minute session.

Perspire’s saunas combine powerful red light (650nm) and near-infrared (850nm) wavelengths to offer you the best therapy available today. This combination of therapy provides the most proven and effective therapeutic wavelengths to the entire body reducing oxidative stress and stimulating the production of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate).
